I’m not saying you can’t trust wealthy people. Most wealthy people are cheap anyway. If they’re very successful, they’re probably also C.H.E.A.P. What the heck am I talking about?! Don’t get your looms in a twist… here’s what I mean:
C.H.E.A.P. is an acronym that stands for:
Conversation
Humour
Empathy
Assertiveness
Pace
These are all necessary for building trust, which is essential for getting people to respect your opinion.
Conversation skills are essential for building bonds with people. It shows that you are relaxed and able to calmly think of conversation topics, which shows trustworthiness.
Humor makes people feel close to you immediately because it shows them you have the same view of the world, which often denotes a similar background and upbringing.
Empathy allows you to truly understand people on a fundamental level and really see their side of things, allowing for profound trust to build.
Assertiveness means you can ask for what you want and set boundaries with people, which makes them automatically begin to trust you. They view you as direct with no hidden motives.
Pace refers to the speed at which you speak. Simply by adding a two second pause before responding to things makes people take your word more seriously. This is because 1.) It shows you thought about your words before you spoke them, and 2.) You’re not in a hurry to give your answer, which shows confidence.
Try being C.H.E.A.P. in your interactions with people and see how it enriches your relationships.
